Using the Google Reader Trends Section

So, a cool little feature on Google Reader, if you're interested, is the Trends section, right here. And, basically, what it is, is it gives you all of the trends, your reading trends and some trends about your subscriptions over time. And, you can see it's got just a little overview from your twelve subscriptions over the last thirty days, you've read twenty-three items, starred zero, shared zero and e-mailed zero. And this, over here, there's even a little graph, and you can see since I just started this today, boom, it's really high today. And you can sort it by the time of day, the day of the week, but over time you'll see it'll go up and down and just if you want to kind of track how much you're reading your items, this is where you would do it. So, down here, you have your reading trends and you can see it's by subscription, and then number of read, and then percent read and kind of what this is useful for, if your subscriptions are getting really crowded over here and there's just so many you don't know what to do with them, you might come over to your trends. See what's at the bottom, and then start deleting these zero percents, these ones I'm not even reading at all. It would also be useful to check out this inactive tab. These are the trends on the subscriptions their self. You can see which ones are most frequently updated and if there's one that's just not updating at all and you can see this inactive tab and you can see the last time it was updated. The one that was updated, like a year ago, maybe you want to delete that because they're obviously not releasing any new stories. Then, one other fun thing they have down here is just your tags and the bigger a tag is, the more stories it has, the more items it has. So, fun has a lot of stories, news has a lot of stories. And the darker it is, the more I've read. So, I've read more news than fun. So, that's just kind of another, I can see what I'm reading and what I'm not. I'm not looking at parenting that much and that's only because today I just started this, but as time goes on, this section will really grow and you can get an idea of how it works. And, like I said, it's probably one of the useful things is, finding out what you're not reading and then deleting it to kind of clear up the clutter over here on your subscription list. And that's how you use the Trends section of Google Reader.
