How to Manage Health Club Facilities
This is Ivan Madar and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. We are talking about Essentials of effective club and tennis and spa management of these facilities. We have covered some areas before. Now I'd like to focus on the area of managing facilities. The first and very very important point that I like to make is something that a lot of managers don't get a chance to do. If they do get the chance to do it, I strongly advise it to everyone -- is to get involved with the design of facilities. A lot of times, the facilities are designed by the financial backers, the owner sand the architects without really looking at the operations. Only the managers have that experience. If the manager's input goes into the design, it is much easier to manage the facility afterwards. A lot of firms that specialize in building of athletic and sports facilities and spas have these experiences and they have experienced managers on staff. A lot of times, various entrepreneurs decide to go into the business and do these facilities and then they hire a manager afterwards and suddenly the manager says "I wish you would have put this locker room here", or "I wish you would have put this shower this way." "I wish you would this exercise room facing east rather than west." There are various comments and it's too late. You have to work with what you have and that's what most people do. If you have a chance and you can put your operational experience into the thinking of the design, you will come up with a much much better facility and when you manage it and staff it, it makes a world of difference.
