Standing Calf Raise Weight Lifting Exercise for Beginners

I am Kirk Watt on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to be doing the standing calf raise. Now all you are going to need is some kind of an elevated platform. You can do it off the flat ground but I recommend that you have something that will lift you slightly up off the ground. Basically you just want to stand firmly, shoulder with apart on the platform, just like that. Lower the heel just slightly below the horizontal line and extend it straight up in the air just like contracting the calf, nice and hard, letting it back down just below horizontal and you go right back up again. As you can see you can get quite a good contracture in the calves if you take it up nice and hard and give them a good squeeze. For the beginners make sure that you take your time, do not overdo it. You want to make sure that you do not hurt yourself and the calf exercise just like, if you do weights too many of them, it will definitely cause you a little bit of pain so make sure you are very moderate. Again about 20 repetitions is always recommended. Take your time, as you notice I'm not going too fast or too slow and when you are done let those heels drop, give it a nice stretch, take about 20 seconds and take your rest and that is the standing calf raise.
