G Open Guitar Chords & Shapes

MICHAEL PLUNKETT: Hi. This is Michael Plunkett on behalf of Expert Village. Now, we're going to go ahead now and take a look at our next chord in the series, the G. We're going to look at it in our open shape. Again, the lowest or farthest down shape we can use on the neck. We start out--this time, we actually are going to be using the 6th or the E string, our low E. We're going to start with our second or middle finger there. Next, we come up the next string, the 5th string. We're going to put our first finger. This is going to be on the 2nd fret. By the way, this is the 3rd fret. We've got two open strings here in the middle and we just play those without pressing down on any frets. And on the last two, we're on the third fret, the same as our second finger was, and we're using three and four on those two highest strings. So when we put it all together, it going to look something like that. Now, this third finger is actually optional. You can play this pressed down or you can even play it open too but I found it has a little bit more rich of a sound when you leave it down. That's the G open shape.
