How to Set Up a Drum Kit on Stage
DENIS DOWNING: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Denis Downing at Roxy Studios, New York City and today, I'm going to show you how to set up some band equipment. Okay. Basically, when you're setting up the drum kit--drummers all have their particular way--the way they want to set it up but if you're just setting it up in general just to have it ready for a drummer, you really basically want to make sure that everything is touchable and in tune. As you can hear, this isn't in tune right now. We showed you how to re-head a drum before and quickly--how you would tune it up, cross-tuning like this--well, how to tighten it. You do the same thing when you're tuning it. So, what you want to do is--generally, the bottom head should be in tune and I generally tune in to the bottom head if it's in tune, okay? So, some people have different philosophies about that but what you want to do is tap the drum side to side and slowly tune it up or down to where all of them are even.
