How to Change Pre-Amp Tubes
DENIS DOWNING: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Denis Downing at Roxy Studios, New York City and today, I'm going to show you how to set up some band equipment. Okay. Now, these are basically covers you--just depress them, give them a twist and they pop off, okay? Most amps don't even have all of them covered anymore. This is an older amp. In most times, it just covers the number one preamp tube. Now, preamp tubes are either 12AX7s or ECC83s; you could use either or. The tricky part about these is I would suggest when you pull them out, again, be gentle; wiggle them a little. When they come out though, these are not keyed. Remember where that space is, okay? The space in the pins because sometimes you can't always see where you're putting them back into. So, if you remember where that space is, it's a lot easier to get them back in, okay?
