Learn When to Change Your Amp Tubes
DENIS DOWNING: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Denis Downing at Roxy Studios, New York City and today, I'm going to show you how to set up some band equipment. Okay, now, you might be wondering if you own a tube amp when you would want to change your tubes, okay? It all depends on how often you use it, the volume you play at. Let's say, you're playing at a lot of volumes say, four days a week, gigging a couple of times in a month. I would say change those tubes probably every year. Play a couple of times a week. Gig once in a while and maybe every two years; if you don't use it that often and you'd think about it after three years, it's all about usage. If you're one of those guys that uses it till it dies, well, the tell-tale factor is one day you might be playing that amp and little by little that volume starts to drop halfway through your session, change those tubes.
