Choose the Right Amp Tubes for You
DENIS DOWNING: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Denis Downing at Roxy Studios, New York City and today, I'm going to show you how to set up some band equipment. Now, we're going to talk a little bit about tubes. Okay. There are a lot of different types of power tubes. Your power tubes are the larger tubes within the head. You have 7027As, you have 6550s, you have EL34s which we have here. You have 5881s and 6L6s which are one in the same. 6L6 and 5881 are both the same but no other tubes are interchangeable. You can't take an EL34 and put it in an amp that takes a 6L6 or anything else, okay? The primary tubes that are being used today are EL34s and 5881s or 6L6.
