How to Lower a Jacked Up Truck

Hi my name is Nate McCullough on behalf of Expert Village. In the following clips we're going to talk about the correct procedure for replacing your upper and lower ball joints on a two wheel drive, full sized vehicle. In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to jack the vehicle up off of our jack stand, remove it, and let the vehicle down. What I'm going to do is place my floor jack in the same location that I had it to jack the vehicle up to do my service work. As you can see the tires off the ground and free spinning. Slip my jack underneath here, make sure my screw is tight, and go ahead and actuate it by hand. You can move the lever by hand to adjust it up to your lower control arm a lot faster than trying to use the jacking handle itself the whole time. Alright, we've engaged the lower control arm, take it put a couple pumps to it. Release the safety catch on my jack stand, slide it out of the way and we're going to let the vehicle down. You're going to want to release the screw very slowly; if you take it and turn it all at once the vehicle is going to drop very quickly. You may damage your jack or yourself. Take and put just a tiny turn on it and get the vehicle creeping downwards. Slip my handle back into the jacking portion or my jack and slide it out of the way. That right there is the proper way to jack your vehicle up off your stand, let it down, and remove your jack.
