How to Clean Boat Upholstery

Hi. I'm Albert Hedgepeth with Expert Village. Today we are going to talk a little bit about boat maintenance. You will probably have to replace the upholstery on your boat every few years, just from normal wear and tear use. There are a couple of things you can do to maintain the quality and resale value of your boat and its upholstery. It s just like a couch in your home. You want to make sure that whenever people board your boat that they don't mind sitting down on it. You don't want to clean your upholstery with bleaches and stuff because it will dye it and burn it. One of the major things that you want to do is you want to make sure that you dry it frequently. If the upholstery gets wet and the foaming on the inside of it gets wet it will dry rot a whole lot quicker. Keeping your boat covered or putting a camper top on top of it is really a great way to increase the longevity of the upholstery after you've replaced it. Maintaining it, it's great just to wash it down every time you use it with basic soap and water. You can hit it with some spot cleaners, carpet cleaner will work, or just your basic household cleaners. Just avoid bleach because it will dye some of the colors and make them run.
