Understanding Protein Sources for Dogs

Hi! This is Elise McMahon for Expert village.com and in this video series we are going to be talking about how to make your own dog food. If you would like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at canineheadstart.com. So in this short clip, we are going to be talking about protein sources; what kind of protein you can include in your dog’s diet. One example of a protein is chicken. I have got a chicken right here. You can also use lamb or beef, venison, buffalo; that’s an example of meat proteins. Another good source of protein and something that is often fun to put in the dog’s diet as a little something different are eggs; eggs are excellent source of protein. We are going to be talking in another video clip about how to make an omelet, but you can make scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs with cheese. Eggs are a great source of protein. Speaking of cheese, cheese again is another good source of protein. It is also an excellent source of calcium. These are just little cheese wedges, these can be grated up or they can be broken up in to pieces and added into the dog’s food when you make it. Another good source of protein is fish. Here I have just got a can of tuna fish. You can get canned mackerel, canned salmon if you want to work with canned fish, but you can also use fresh tuna, fresh salmon; any kind of fresh fish again it is an excellent source of protein for your dog. Example of beef, I have got some beef liver here. You pretty much, can any source of protein that humans would use, you can also use for your dogs as well. It is a good idea to vary what kind of protein you are using, but you want to use the same protein within one meal. So if you are going to be using chicken, you use necessarily chicken and beef. You want to give them a varied diet if you are going to be cooking your own food; giving a varied diet and play around with the different sources of protein and what things you can make with the different sources of protein.
