Hi! This is Elise McMahon for Expert Village.com and we are going to be talking in this video series about how to make your own dog food. If you would like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at canineheadstart.com. So we are going to be talking here about how to make your own dog stew. We are going to be starting of with some vegetables and I have got some carrots here. You want to make sure that you have washed very carefully all your vegetables. We are going to cut the carrots up into mid-size pieces. Some people like to buy organic produce; certainly that is an option. I have got rolling carrots. So I used three carrots, not really a rule about how much you are making because you can make a whole pot of stew and you can put it into separate containers and freeze it. If you have a couple of large dogs probably they will eat a whole pot of stew in one or two days in which case there is no reason to freeze it, but if you have smaller dogs you would make sense to make one stew up front and then three smaller portions of it. So it is really not a science about how many carrots, how many zucchinis or how many potatoes you are going to use. One thing I would like to point out it and it is very important while we are doing the cutting here is that certain foods are extremely dangerous to dogs and among those foods are onions and so you would absolutely not want make stew or anything else for your dog with onions. Another food that falls into that category as dangerous for your dogs, are grapes and raisins. So even though we have talked in other series, in other clips about fruits and vegetables, you do not want to use grapes and raisins and in the nut family, macadamia nuts are very toxic to dogs. So what we have got here is a sweet potato and we are cutting the sweet potato up into again medium size pieces. Now I am used to cooking for larger breed dogs. You can see the chunks that I am cutting up are a decent size. If you have got a Pekingese, Chihuahua, Boston terrier any small breed dog, you might want to go through the extra effort of cutting up into small pieces.
