Time Signatures in Violin Playing

As a beginning violinist you're already well aware of the key signature, and what that means to your playing, but you should also be well aware of the time signature. For beginning violinists most time signatures are in the four-four time, which means four beats per measure. In quarter notes it would be played four notes per measure, like this. If you were to be playing in half notes there would be two notes per measure in four beats; each note taking up two beats, and a whole note; which takes up four beats; would be the only note in the measure. So you can see; time and the length of a note itself can change the sound that you're producing when playing the violin. Always make sure that you're aware of the time signature; since there are many other time signatures; such as two-four, three-four, twelve eighths, nine eighths, and the list goes on and on.
