How to Tune a Violin

When a violin is in tune, it'll have a truly harmonious sound between the G and D string, the D and A string and the E and A string. So, let's try it out and find out. If your face made the same expression mine did, then you know this violin is 100% not in tune. Now, there are two different ways that you can tune your violin and get it into perfect harmony. The first way is by ear. Most beginning violin students aren't capable of tuning their violin by ear because they're not familiar with the correct sounds that a violin needs to make in order to be in tune. So, your second option, especially as a beginning student, is a metronome or a tuner. A metronome will play the A string for you and, from there, you'll be able to figure out the sounds of the other strings. But, if you don't want to use a metronome and you'd like to hear all of the sounds, you can use a chromatic tuner. A chromatic tuner will tell you the exact note you're playing on the string.
