How to Clean & Store a Violin

One of the biggest mistakes that beginning violinists make is not knowing how to properly care for their violin. This causes a very significant problem, because if you're not willing to take care of your violin, rosin will cake up on your strings, on your bow, on your case, and everything will become a mess, and you won't be able to properly play. At the end of the day; when you're done playing your violin; every single time, you should take a soft cloth, which you can buy at any music store. Take your violin, and make sure that you wipe down the front, the strings, underneath the strings, on the neck, underneath the strings next to the bridge, and anywhere else that you feel that rosin may have gotten on your violin. Once you've done that; you can put it in the case, and the case is a whole other story. It's not only made to protect your violin, but it's also made to protect your bow, and your violin; should your case not be air tight. Most violin cases come with a compartment that's made distinctly for your shoulder rest, your cleaning supplies. You'll lay your sheet over your violin; close it up, and you're good to go, but don't forget to zip it up, or you may have a very unpleasant surprise.
