Violin Accessories for Beginners

One of the most important items that you can have as an accessory to your violin; especially if you live in a dry climate; is the humidifier. A basic humidifier looks kind of like a snake, and it hides inside of your violin. What you would do with this if you're living in a dry climate; like Utah, you would dip this in water overnight, and then let it soak out. Then you'd put it inside your violin, to keep it from cracking in too hot and dry of a climate. If you were in an excessively wet climate, you would put this inside; completely dry, and it would soak up the humidity, so that your violin didn't bubble in the varnish, or get too soft, and fall apart. One of the other most important items that you can have as an accessory to your violin is the shoulder rest. What your shoulder rest does is it keeps your violin from laying too hard against your shoulder, and it helps you in playing. If you weren't to have a shoulder rest; your violin would go anywhere that it wanted. A basic shoulder rest looks like this. This is a Kun shoulder rest. There are many other types of shoulder rests, and it depends on your preference. Most advanced violinists will have a Kun. What you'll do with it is you stick it on the back, and there are pegs on the back of the shoulder rest that aid you in placing it on the back, and it will help prop your violin up high enough so that you can extend your arm the full length.
