How to Do a Hero Twist Yoga Pose

GINA KENNEDY: We're going to revisit Supta Baddha Konasana, or lying bound angle, only in a different manner. In this way, we're going to do it now. It's going to release stress in the groin, and it's also going to help problems with sciatica because it stretches the muscle that's opposing to the sciatic nerve. So, I'm going to ask Faith to come into table top position. Good. Now, she's going to bring her knees wide and her feet together. Good. And then, she's just going to ease herself down and maybe stack her hands, and place her forehead right onto her hands. Good. Now, notice how Faith's heels are not on the ground. So, what we're going to do is place a block right underneath her heels, and you can do this at any level so you just might have to play with it, maybe even put a blanket or another book on top to get at the correct level for your heels. And then, you're able to press into that block just a little bit and open up through your inner thighs just a little bit more. So, you're gently pressing down with each inhale, you're lengthening, and with each exhale, you're pressing your knees out to the sides a little more as you press your heels down, opening up through your groin and, hopefully, relieving any problems with sciatica that you might have.
