Drum Beat Variation with Bass Drum on Beat 1

JOEL SIEGEL: All right, so we're going to start out with the bass drum. We're just going to be playing one quarter note, and for this first one we're going to put it on beat one. Okay? So, this is similar to that beat that we were doing earlier but instead of beats one and three or one, two, three and four, it's just going to be on beat one. And as I'm playing with beat one on the kick, beats two and four on the snare, and 8th notes on the hi-hat, I want you to be thinking, try and conceptualize where things are lining up, which limbs are going to be lining up with each other and on which beat, all right? So, here's--we're going to speed it--take the tempo up just a little bit from what we've been doing. We're going to be at 80 for all these beats, all right? So, here's what it sounds like. And remember, try and conceptualize where everything is lining up. All right, so that was enough time, hopefully, for you to kinda get a feel of at least a couple of things that we're going to be lining up. Just like before, you have the two and four on your two hands, one and two and three and four and, and then with the kick, you're just going to have that one aspect lining up and it's going to be with your right hand and your right foot, and that's one and two and three and four and one. That's where you should be thinking about as far as your limbs lining up.
