Isolating the Rib Cage in Belly Dancing

Hi girls, this is Portia again with Belly Motions. Let’s continue our beginner belly dance classes. What we are going to do now is learn how to isolate the ribcage. I am going to show you a side view bend, tuck, lift, roll. Relax your hands on the front of your hips. Imagine a string is attached to your sternum. You are going to push your ribcage forward and drop it down, try it with me. Push and drop, you are going to contract your rhomboids, which are the muscles in the center of your back. Imagine you have an itch in the center of your back; contract the muscles and jut the chest forward. Let us try it faster, up and down, up and down, good, up and down, lift release, forward and back, forward and back, good. Make sure your pelvis is tucked in, we do not want to rotate; we do not want any more movement in the lower spine, just the ribcage, good. Lets 4, and 3, 2 and release.
