How to Use Your Fists in Cheerleading Routines

Hi! I'm Mandy Butler on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you today about cheerleading motions. Now I'm going to teach you the correct technique for a fist. It's very important, because if you've noticed, I've used a fist in almost every single position that I've done so far. When you're doing motions, you have to have a nice strong fist. A lot of people make the mistake of having their thumb inside their hand, so it looks like this. You don't want to do that because notice the line I've got right here is not very level. You want to have your thumb outside of your fist. Also, you want to have your fingers balled inside. A lot of people like to keep their fingers straight, but when you do that and you close it, you've got that big hole and it just does not look as good as nice a big doughnut hole would. When you open your hand, you're going to roll your fingers in and you're going to wrap your thumb around making a nice strong fist. Also notice that I'm level across the top. I'm not bending my wrist forward or bending my wrist backward. I've got a nice tight fist.
