How to Do the Daggers Move in Cheerleading

Hi! I'm Mandy Butler on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you today about cheerleading motions. Now I'm going to take you through the proper technique of a blade. Now, there are 2 schools of though on this. I'm going to tell you both. Sometimes in a blade, you're going to see the thumb just press nice and tightly up against the rest of the fingers. Sometimes people will bend so this doesn't stick out. I personally prefer to bend your thumb because it streamlines everything. You also sometimes get people who bend their thumbs too much and it doesn't really work. Whatever you're comfortable with and what your choreographer has specified, that will be your blade position. The main difference between a fist and a blade is of course, that in a fist your fingers are balled inside, whereas in a blade, they're nice and straight like blades of grass. I've got my fingers level. They're not bending forward. They're not bending upward. I have not flexed my wrist. I've got a nice straight blade. If I bend my thumb and put it in there, the whole purpose of having a blade motion is to streamline your arm. Make your body look longer. You're going to see there's a lot in motion sequences, especially at the all-star level. This is a blade.
