Ranges of Steel Pan Drums

Hi. I'm Alan Lightner with Pan Rammage and Rhythm Roots All Stars. I'm here on behalf of Expert Village to tell you a little bit about the roles of the different family members of the Steel Drum family, and how they fit into a traditional setting. We've got various instruments here. They're all steel pans but they have different ranges. And we're going to talk about each roll and how they fit into the music. I myself have been playing the steel drums for twenty-five years or so. I fell in love with it at an early age and I knew that if I ever had a chance to learn, I would. And I was fortunate enough to find some guys that were teaching and they took me under their wings, and happily this art form has taken over my life. Now I travel around playing, performing, recording and doing a lot of teaching and just enjoying the music that this beautiful art form provides.
