Hi I'm Bryan Billhimer and on behalf of Expert Village today I'm going to show you how to re-string and tune a guitar. First thing you are going to need is a new set of strings. There are all kinds of strings; I use Ernie Ball Power Slinkies. There are all kinds of different gauges to. You can use light strings, super light strings, heavy gauge strings. These are a little on the heavy side, they start with a diameter of eleven on the high E string and forty eight on the low E string. I like the ticker strings because it creates a thicker tone, I don't break as many strings and I've just gotten use to these and they feel pretty good. I would steer away from very light strings that start out with like an eight on the high E string, those have a tendency to break although they really fun because they're easy to bend. It's going to have a thin really brittle sound. You need a new pack of strings. The second thing you're going to need is a tool to cut the strings with and you can use a wire cutter or anything like this. Third thing you'll need, I like to do is you'll need a nice soft cotton cloth. You can make it out of an old t-shirt if you don't have something lying around or whatever. I'm going to use this to clean the guitar because while you have the old strings off, you might as well go ahead and maintain and clean your guitar. The forth thing you'll need is a guitar tuner unless you can tune by ear. This makes it very easy and it's a more precise way of tuning especially when you put new strings on because they are going to go in and out of tune at first. Then you'll need a guitar cable to plug from your guitar into your tuner, of course and that's it.
