Tranny Belt System

On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Tom Roland and we are at Cottonwood Motor Sports and I am here to tell you about doing a service on a Polaris Quad and this is fairly representative of a macho, many of them. On the Polaris, the CVT Belt system which is the clutch and the variable drive is underneath this big black cover here. It is also up here on the top. To get to it at a $100 service, we have to take this whole foot well out and then we have to take this cover off and the cover has a ring of bolts that go around it and it also has a red drain plug and that is if water was to get in, you could drain the water out of the cover. A lot of times if you did get water in it, it will slip but it might not cause any damage as long as you get the water out of it. It is kind of time consuming to get this out but the belt needs to be looked at every 100 hours as long as it hasn't been damaged. Also, I will point out the filler for the transmission since we drained the transmission and now we are on this side, we can fill it too. After we have drained the oil, we have to fill it and the filler plug is on the opposite side of the motor and it says oil fill, oil check and it also has an oil part number which is this special oil that the Polaris calls for and that is an AGL oil and it is a thin oil, a synthetic but it is a very good oil. Anyway it takes almost a quart. Different models take different amounts but on this unit, you fill it up to the bottom of the hole and after it is filled level to the bottom of the hole, you just tighten the plug back up and that is all there is for changing the transmission and the final drive on the back of a 500.
