Adding Food to a BBQ Pit Fire

Hi! I'm Mark Sullivan for Expert Village and today we are going to show you how to build a fire in your backyard barbecue pit. After you've studied the safety, you are going to need to determine how long you are going to be cooking to start your fire. I like to start my fire really about 45 minutes to an hour before we are going to put any food on so that we can get a good bed of coals and have a really good steady heat. So the first thing that we need to do is to determine what kind of fire we are going to build. Are you going to be using charcoal briquettes? Are you going to be using wood? What we are going to use today is we are going to start our fire by recycling newspaper so we just take newspaper wadded up in balls and this is what is going to start the fire from the very bottom.
