Guitar Lessons & Techniques for Beginners

BRYAN BILLHIMER: Okay. So to finish up our lesson, I'm going to show you how to play a basic riff using notes out of the major scale. So, I've tabbed it out here with our tablature. We're going to start on the third fret on the low E string. Then we're going to play the fifth fret, then we're going to move to the A string, third fret, fifth fret, third fret then back to the low E string, fifth fret, third fret, fifth fret. And here's how that would look when I play it. I'll play it again. Remember to alternate your picking; that's really important. I'm keeping my palm down on the bridge, thumb on the back of the neck, fingers arched. I'm playing with the tips of my fingers. Now, it's up to you to experiment with the major scale. Try making up some of your own riffs using those notes. Okay, so that's it for our lesson. Make sure you practice a lot. Again, make sure you experiment with the major scale and try to apply everything we've learned here today and just remember to have fun with it. So, on behalf of Expert Village, I'm Bryan Billhimer and I'll see you next time.
