Pick Techniques for Beginning Guitar

BRYAN BILLHIMER: Hi. I'm Bryan Billhimer and on behalf of Expert Village, welcome to Guitar Playing 101, The Basics. Okay, so now we're going to talk about how to pick the string. We have our fingering down here with the frets. Now we're going to pick the strings, so back to our right-hand technique, palm on the bridge, pick in hand with thumb and index finger or thumb and index finger and middle finger. Now we're going to pick with the edge of the pick here, the point. So palm on the bridge and we're just going to pick down just like that. Now you don't want to dig the pick in too deep or you'll get caught up; just with the edge there. So we're going to pick down each string. Now, as you can see, my guitar is out of tune and we're going to talk about how to tune the guitar next.
