BRYAN BILLHIMER: Hi. I'm Bryan Billhimer and on behalf of Expert Village, welcome to Guitar Playing 101, The Basics. Okay. So now we're going to talk about the parts of the guitar. The first thing is the wood piece. The main part of the guitar here, this is called the body. Okay? This piece of wood here that attaches to the body is called the neck. This part up here is called the headstock or head. These are your tuning pegs; this is what you use to tune the guitar. This white plastic piece right here and has grooves on it where the strings go, that's called the nut. These silver things on the neck are called frets. On electric guitar, you have--these are pickups; that's what picks up the sound and amplifies it. This is the bridge. This is your tailpiece. On electric guitar, you have tone knobs, volume knobs, and this is your pickup selector which will allow you to choose between which pickups you're using. In the up position on this guitar, you'd be using this pickup, which gives you a bassier tone. The middle position uses both pickups, and the all the way down position uses your bridge pickup back here, which is going to give you a little more treblier tone. So now we know the parts of the guitar, I'm going to show you how to hold it next.
