How to Mount a Caliper on a Car

Hi, my name is Nate McCullough on behalf of Expert Village. In these clips we're going to talk about the proper way to remove and replace a front wheel drive vehicle's Ball Joint. In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to remount our vehicle's Break Caliper, compress the piston, if necessary and install our retaining bolt. We must, what I'm going to do is get this mounted some and flip it up. You can use just about anything to compress the Caliper piston as long as it's steel. If it's a composite like a plastic you're going to want to an old break pad and pry against that. This is pretty much the way I do it, just right like so. Apply prime force and that will compress your piston. Then the piston will go in. It may, you may see some fluid coming out of the top of the master cylinder. That's normal. If somebody has added fluid to the system you're going to squeeze out any extra that's in there. Once you have your piston compressed, we can take and just rock our Caliper down into position right like so. We're going to install our mounting bolt. This one happens to take a 7 millimeter. Alright, once you've got it lined up you can go ahead and screw her down. And that is the proper way to remount your vehicles Caliper.
