On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole from Pet Kingdom. I'm here to tell you about sick snakes. Sometimes when you feel your snake maybe ill is something a little more simple than internal parasites or stomatities. One of the first things you should check when you feel your snake is not eating right or is acting a little funny not so friendly maybe a little scared. You might want to check his eyes a big problem with captive snakes is that they are not kept in the right humidity levels. This is very important for their shedding now the snake should shed in one full piece. They coverings over their eyes are part of the shed they do shed those coverings. This is something that a lot of people wouldn't notice if the snake sheds the entire skin off the body but it retains the eye caps, this is going to be devastating to it's appetite. He's not going to be able to see correctly, it can cause infections, mites can get underneath the eye caps and cause bites on the eye. He can't see very well when he has eye caps over his eyes. So make sure if your snake starts acting funny this is one of the first things you check it can be simple as this. If you snake does retain eye caps you'll be able to see it, it will be kind of hazy color maybe even wrinkled where the skin has kind of bulged up a little bit, maybe even peeling at the edges. It may have a silvery coloring to it, if you feel that your snake does have retained eye caps what you need to do is soak it in warm water for as long as you can at least 20 minutes, several times a day until it comes off. After you soak the snake you can take a very soft clean dry rag and just kind of wipe away at the snakes eye cap there. If it does not come off easily don't force it it's very important that you don't force it cause you can cause damage to the cornea of the snakes eye. But if you can just kind of wipe it off and if that does not work I would highly suggest that you take it to a vet who can put your snake under or at least calm it down enough to where he can hold it still and manually remove those eye caps from the snakes eyes.
