Tips for Responsible Absinthe Drinking

Hi my name's Allen for Expert Village, and today I'm going to discuss the controversial and banned alcohol, commonly known as Absinthe. I need about an ounce of this, so I have a jigger right here. You can also get a pourer if you can really do it by eye, but the jigger is really the best way to go. You know you're getting an ounce, and also in this I just have some ice and some water. About five ounces. So all together we should be able to it right in here. So I'm going to go ahead and open the Absinthe. Actually right before that, let me just show you we do have these tools, which I showed you in the beginning. These are going to go over the Absinthe once you pour it in. And then we have the sugar cubes which go on top here, and then we're going to pour the water over that. That's going to dilute it and also sweeten it up. Again, let's go right back here. Open up the Absinthe. Make sure the jigger is clean, and we're going to go ahead and pour it out. This is an ounce, again. We've got an ounce of Absinthe in there. If you want, you could do a shot of it straight, but it's going to be very, very bitter. So I really don't recommend it. So let's go ahead and dump that in there. You can see how green that is. Very, very cool. Just hold that up right for you. Nice and green. And now the next step, as I mentioned, is we're going to take the spoon which says "green devil" right in it. Pretty cool. And place it right on top of the glass. It should sit right on top of it, and we're going to put the sugar cubes there, and it's a perforated spoon, so the water will go through it. For the most part, just be pretty careful dumping this on in. Sugar should be melting because the water going through it and this is cold water. Ice cold water, actually, so you don't have to put any ice in the actual drink. You can see how it dilutes it already, and it's getting almost like an echo cooler type look to it. So that's all that, and we'll put the sugar through. We put the water over the sugar to sweeten up the Absinthe, and it also dilutes it, so it's not a very bitter and strong drink. Like I said you could do it straight, but I really don't recommend it. So it says let the sugar cubes melt in the glass, and then once the glass is full, mix with the spoon. So we did do that a little bit, and let's go ahead and mix this just a little bit more. And I believe this is brown sugar that comes with the kit, so once that's all in there nice and diluted. If you did it probably a little bit slower with the water, you'd get it to dilute a little bit quicker. But since it was the two cubes, it's a little hard to do. So it's not a problem doing it like this. Almost diluted. Alright those are all diluted now. As you see, the Absinthe right here. That's what it should look like when it's diluted with the sugar in it, and all I've got to say thank you for watching my Absinthe video. I hope you go out and get your own, and enjoy this flavorful drink. Of course, responsible. Again my name is Allen for Expert Village, and this is the home Absinthe kit. Salut. Very nice. Very good. Still a little bitter, a little kick to it, but with the sugar in there, you can taste all the flavorful herbs and everything. So go ahead, pick it up, and like I said, enjoy it.
