How to Tie an Overhand Knot & Half Hitch

Now a great way to secure a loop in your line is to use a simple overhand knot with a half hitch attached to it. This will create a nice secure loop that will not slip out of your rope. So what we're going to do is take our length of rope that I have here and here's my working end and my standing end. I'm going to pull it through and I'm going to go ahead and make my simple overhand knot. But instead of making my overhand knot I'm going to go ahead and make my overhand knot with a loop in it. Then with the turn of this in the same direction I'm going to put a half hitch into it. There we go a nice secure loop that will not pull out like a overhand knot with a loop in it will. So we'll do this one more time. Untie this. Take our length of rope and loop it around, create a loop and an overhand knot and take our rope in the same direction and pull in our half hitch. There you go a nice secure loop.
