Uromastyx Lizard Terrarium Set Up

On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole. This is my Uromastyx I keep him in this type of terrarium this is actually a aquarium It's 20 long (20 gallon) aquarium they also come in 20 high in which it's not recommended for reptiles because 20 long gives you more floor space and less height. This Uromastyx is a ground dwelling creature he lives to burrow in the sand so what I've done is provided him with a couple of inches of the sand sub straight down there. It is editable so it's okay if it accidentally digest some of it, I got his water dish right here in the front. Most Uromastyx will this particular Uromastyx is from Egypt and he doesn't really require a water dish he usually gets most of his water from the vegetables. If you spray them but I provided him with a water dish simply because it makes me feel better. So I also got the rock dish back there is his food dish I give him his vegetables in there. He also eats bird seeds and dry pinto beans he loves the pinto beans. I also put his supplement on top of his food, he also has his shelter right here. This is a half circle of bark, it's plastic I purchase it from my pet store and this provides him with security he needs to feel as though he can hide. He needs to be able to burrow underneath something to make him feel better. So what we provide here is a little bit high than the Uromastyx requires but he's seems to like it so he's okay with it. This over here in the back corner is a heat rock this is very important to the Uromastyx simply because the Uromastyx is a animal that needs to reach an internal body temperature about 120 degrees. So I have to make sure that I keep this side of the cage really hot for him, it needs to be about 140. So I kept my thermometer back there and I also have a ceramic heat admitor on top of this cage. I keep this ceramic heat admitor here because it's very high wattage, it's perfect for animals that require high levels or high temperatures such as the Uromastyx. As you can see it's not a light of any sort it's simply ceramic and it doesn't provide any light what so ever. What it does for him is simply just straight temperature, it's very hot and you can easily get burned on it so be careful with something like this. You also want to use this type of screen covering for keeping a heat admitor on top of this, this is a wire screen metal it will not melt. It's very important that we make sure that the top of the cage is appropriate for the heat sources that you put on top of your cages. This back here is a strip light it's UVB rays and it doesn't provide heat for the Uromastyx but it does make the sunlight so he's able to produce vitamin D and absorb the calcium.
