Heating a Uromastyx Lizard Terrarium

On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole. This is my desert dwelling animal and he requires this strip light right here. Which is providing him with the UVB rays because he does not get enough direct sunlight for this species he needs a lot of UVB to be able to produce his vitamins. So I also got this provides the day light this provides the mimicking sunlight. This here is his heat source this is a ceramic heat admitor as you can see it's not a light at all. It doesn't produce any light it only produces heat this is an animal that needs to be able to reach an internal temperature of 120 degrees. So I got this high wattage heat admitor here to help aide him in that. This rock here on the bottom of his cage is also heated he lays on that when he needs to warm up mainly when right after he eats when we needs to digest. In the back there above the rock there is a thermometer hard to see through the lens cause it's dusty in there. That is a thermometer and I have one right here next to his heat sources so I can make sure that the temperature in his basking area is high enough. Then I have another one on the other side of the cage the cool side so I can make sure that he has an area to retreat to if he likes to cool down. I like to keep track of the temperature on that side of the cage as well cause I can't let it drop to a certain level. This lighting here for my Iguana I have both of these lights on a timer, this one on the far side is his basking light. That is what he uses to warm up for most of the part that is his main heat source he gets most of his sunlight through the window. He doesn't require high levels of UVB rays I just supplement him with vitamin D to replace what is left out from the lack of sunlight. This light here is his night light and I'll show you it's an inferred heat bulb and what the red heat bulb is for is to make sure he gets enough heat through the night. He can climb onto his branch and soak up the heat even during the evening time but it still doesn't disturb his day/night patterns cause he can't see the color.
