Questions & AnswersNow this is a double Prusik knot. The double Prusik knot is basically just an extra bend over your regular Prusik knot. I'll show you what I mean down here. I have my Prusik knot all ready set up so I can show you. I have it wrapped around this here. Now this is a mountaineer?s type knot. So this would actually be a line or rope here instead of this block of wood. But for ease of instruction, I've got wood here. And basically, this is my Prusik here. And instead of tightening down, you can see I've still got my loop here. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to bring my loop back around one extra turn. And I'm going to pull my lines through like so. Now as you can see, this knot is not going to slip. Especially if this was a rope, instead of this wood, this wood is a little bit slick, so this knot will slip on this. But usually in wet and muddy conditions, climbers will use this right here on another rope to keep this from moving. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to undo this, and I'll just run all the way through the process of running a prusik knot. And then the double prusik. Because maybe it would be just a little bit easier to understand here. Pull my line out, and I'm going to go ahead and tie my little working ends together I've got. Just a double overhand like so. Take it, and I'll run it through. And run my loop through once, and run it through again. And we'll have a little bit more length. Run it through twice. Make sure that these don't cross over like this, make sure that this knot is nice and neat. Because this is a safety line for us. We're going to pull it over one more time, and through like so. Let's get this through right here. And there you go. Your double Prusik.
