Welcome to expertvillage.com. We want to talk about how to walk backwards on snowshoes. Now you might ask why would you ever need to walk backwards on snowshoes but there would be times again when you are in a trail, or you get in a situation where you can not walk forward. It is a little bit tricker and again you can practice in a park or a school yard but you want to pick up your feet, using your poles to balance. I have Fred and Oscar here helping me walk backwards. You do have to pick up your legs which gives you a very good workout because your shoe will flap down. Your snowshoe would flat down unlike a regular shoe and again depending on how much powder snow there is you would have to make some adjustments. So between walking backwards and walking forward those are 2 very important skills to have before going out to a more isolated area. A wilderness area. We are going to try walking back one more time and seeing how well that works. That is how you walk backwards with snowshoes. You see how high I'm lifting my legs.
