Keyboard Shortcuts in Gmail

Ok, so the last thing I am going to talk about is the Gmail "Help". If you are ever having any problems with anything, they have got a great "Help" section set up. You can just go there and then they have everything listed out and a ton, a ton of help topics. So if you are ever having problems, the Gmail help maybe a good place to get an answer. I also wanted to let you know that Gmail has a lot of keyboard shortcuts that can actually speed up your work flow. I can access them from the "Help" center, I am just going to search for it and then I can find it real easily. To use keyboard shortcuts, you are going to have to turn them on in your "Settings". Which is right here under the "General" tab, "Keyboard Shortcuts?, on. Then I will go back to looking at the "Help" center after I search for "Keyboard Shortcuts". You have got a shortcut for a ton of things, to compose a new mail, you can hit "Shift C", this slash will put the cursor into your search box and when you are looking at mail if you hit "K", it moves your cursor to a more recent conversation and you can hit "Enter" to expand a conversation and "J" to move back. You can hit "N" and it will move your cursor to the next message, you can enter to expand or collapse a message, which is only applicable in "Conversation View". Then "P" for previous message, and then "O" or enter will open a conversation. So there is just a ton of shortcuts you can look at, another useful one would be "Y" to archive a message you are looking at. Then some other useful ones would be "R" to reply, Shift plus "R" actually. Then Shift plus "A" to reply to all and Shift plus "F" to forward. So some of these shortcuts may come in pretty handy if you are in to using shortcuts. Just to show you a little bit, what it looks like. So now that I am back in my inbox, you can see this arrow here and using the "J" and "K" keys, I can go back and forth. When I hit "Enter" I go directly to that message, so that is pretty useful. Hitting "Shift C" will compose a new mail and then all those other keyboard shortcuts I showed you. So, my keyboard shortcuts might help you go faster, but if you are not comfortable with it, you can just keep it off. One other thing about Gmail is they are always adding cool new features and when they do add the feature, usually they will put a "What's New" up here. I can kind of show you what it looks like right here. They do not actually have it up in Gmail right now at this moment, but that is what it will look like. You can click on it and see all the new features. So that is how you use the basics of using Gmail. I think it is a really great, free web-based email client, my opinion one of the best out there. So I think you should give it a try, it has got a real simple interface, and makes web-based email really easy.
