Importing Contacts into Gmail

Okay, in this clip I'm going to show you how to import contacts from another email. If you're making a switch to Gmail from another email, probably one of the first things you're going to want to do is import your contacts from that old email, so you don't have to redo all your contacts, all your friends and family that you email all the time, you don't want to have to re-type all that in. So to import them from another email, I'm going to show you how to do that. Just looking at the Contacts tab right here, it brings it up right here, and to import we come down here, click Import, and then we have the option to browse for file. And the file that you want to use is called a CSV file, which means Comma Separated Values. So you want to go to your old email and export your contacts as a CSV file, and then you'll be able to import them into Gmail. And I know there's a whole bunch of different emails out there, so let me just show you how to find yours. One easy way is to go up to the help, and then we'll go to the your contacts section, managing contacts, and then exporting contacts from other mail providers. And here is a whole bunch of instructions on how to export contacts from different mail providers, including Yahoo!, Hotmail, Hotmail Live, Outlook and Outlook Express, orkut, AOL, and then some others. So here's a whole bunch of instructions right here, for your particular mail program that you're exporting from. Just real quick, looking at Outlook, you could go to File, Import/Export, and then choose Export from the main menu, and then you want to choose a Comma--a CSV file, Comma Separated Values, and export it like that. Real quick, I'll also show you just too, the major webmail apps, I'll show you how to export from Hotmail. This is Hotmail Live, so to export from here, we're just going to go over to the Options over here, and so now that you're on your options, and you just want to go down to customize your contacts, and then you can click on export contacts. And it just brings it up "Export contacts. You can export your contacts to a CSV file format. This allows you to save them to your computer or transfer them to other e-mail services." And that's exactly what we want to do, so we'll just click export contacts. And then you'll get a little thing saving it, and just make sure that it's a CSV file, like right there. And going over to Yahoo! mail, to export from Yahoo!, we'll go to our options up here, and then mail options, and then over here you have contacts options, then we'll go here under the management side to import/export. And what you want to do is come down to the export section right here, and export as a Yahoo! CSV file. And then you would click export and save that. And then once you save your file, save it someplace you'll remember where you put it, you'll come back to Gmail--just to show you how to get there again, we're on the Gmail home page. Go to contacts, we'll go down here to import contacts, and then up here it--import contacts. And you'll just browse for that file, and then when you find it, you just click "ok", and it will import all your contacts into your Gmail.
