Starting Hair Highlights

Hi, I'm Amelia, and on behalf of expertvillage.com, we'll be talking about highlighting at home. Where you always begin is styling your hair and you're probably wondering why. But color really affects the cut. So if you're wanting highlights, always comb your hair into the style that you normally wear it. And then figure out where you want to see those highlights. Remember, highlight causes the hair to pop out, or as a lowlight, will cause that hair to recede. So if you've got a lot of texture in a cut, you can really get away with more chunky highlights, or you can get away with a lot of little fine highlights, and lowlights to really beak it up and show up that texture. So in this particular manikin, she's got some highlights going on in her bangs that I think are working out great. But I feel that like on the sides she needs a little bit more. So I would probably paint in a few highlights there. And again in the back, same thing, it's very blahh back here. All the excitement's going on in the front. So I would probably maybe do this a little bit darker, and through the top add some highlights. So always figure out what your style is and how much color you want to add before you begin. You don't want to start slapping the highlights on. You really do need to think this process through.
