How to Hunt Deer by Stalking

Another way to hunt deer besides hunting in a deer stand is stalking, walking. It can be more adventurous but it is also much more difficult to do. When you are hunting down a road you do not want to be walking down the middle of the road. Think of yourself as a hunter like a coyote or a wolf after it's prey, so you want to do things that the natural hunters would do such as hug the road near the brush line weaving in and out of brush to help camouflage you and prevent you from being in open site and you are not in a hurry. A lot of people I have seen hunt they will walk at a normal pace, there is no reason that you can't stop and wait for 10-15 seconds, listen to the sounds of the forest and the more you do it, bird sounds and different stuff can tell you whether there is danger in the area or whether the wildlife recognizes your presence. You can travel 30 yards over a period of 5-10 minutes or so and you are walking plenty quickly. The other thing is when you are coming to a crossroads, you want to come to the crossroads and check down both ways. Instead of walking directly to the crossroads you can lead into the brush and use it as a cover to approach the new crossroads to be able to look down both directions and greatly increase your odds of seeing and animal that is feeding or crossing the road. Stalking and walking like I said is a more, much more difficult way of hunting than sitting in a deer stand but can be much more rewarding and adventurous for those who are a little more advanced and want the excitement of moving around in the brush.
