Reducing Pain from an Insect Bite

How to treat pain, swelling and itching from insect bites and stings. Baking soda can be found in supermarkets and has been shown to temporarily reduce pain and swelling associated with insect bites. Add one quarter to a half teaspoon of baking soda to a bowl. Add water to form a thick paste. May add more water or baking soda for desired consistency. Clean affected area with soap and water and pat dry. Apply paste to area patting and covering the bite to reduce swelling and pain.
