Types of Ammunition Used for Target Shooting: Practice Tips for the Gun Range
Hi, my name is Chad. We’ve been talking about rifle and pistol shooting. I’m going to talk a little bit about the ammunition for each. Rifles and pistols generally use different ammunition. There is some crossover- very little. The notable mention is the 22 long rifle, the most popular prolific round in the world. It is very small. It fits in both rifles and pistols. It’s a target shooting round, hunting, clinking, having general fun- it’s very cheap to shoot and is not re-loadable- it cannot be used again, you just shoot it once. But generally, pistols and rifles differ in rifles use much larger, much more powerful rounds. This is the 308 or 762 NATO. It’s used in hunting rifles and military rifles all over the world. This is a nine millimeter handgun. It’s the most popular handgun bullet in the world. You can see the difference in size. Rifles generally shoot much, much, much more powerful bullets going much faster and much farther. And pistols shoot very small, relatively weak bullets going very slow and with very little power in comparison. Generally handguns are much less accurate, but of course handguns are much smaller, easier to carry. But you can’t stick a bullet like this in a hand gun generally, except in very special circumstances.
