Questions & AnswersHi, my name is Chad. We’re talking about rifle and pistol shooting and today I’m going to talk in this segment about semi-autos, the first kind of rifle we’re going to cover. This is a semi-automatic rifle, shoots what’s called a 308 bullet- that’s the size. It’s a round that’s very popular for hunting. It feeds from a magazine, the rounds go inside the magazine, and the magazine goes inside the rifle. It works just like a semi-automatic handgun, that is, as you pull the trigger, the bullet goes out the end, and it cycles back the bolt, strips off another round off the top of the magazine, and puts it into the chamber. This round is semi-automatic. Each time you pull the trigger, one round goes out, and only one round. It is not fully automatic, and it functionally does not operate any differently than hunting rifles that have been around since the early 1900s. Really, the only difference is that it has black plastic for durability. It has a pistol grip that makes it a little easier to carry, and has a magazine that is sometimes larger than what hunting rifles usually have. But it is functionally the same- in fact, this is a very, very old design, somewhere around WWII, but still being used today. So that’s basically how it works, just pull the trigger, and it’s one round out, strips another one off the magazine. And that’s what makes it semi-automatic
