Proper Balance for Football Interceptions

This is Sean Hobson for Expert Village. We want to talk about now, in order to be able to intercept a pass, the first thing you have to do is to be able to cover the guy good. And to start with, the main thing you've got to have is good balance. Anything in the game of football takes good balance. Whether you are blocking, whether you are throwing, whether you are running. It doesn't matter what you've got to have good balance. So what we're going to do right now is we want to talk about this cover man and his balance. The first thing is obviously when you are covering somebody is you want to have your feet shoulder width apart. You don't want to have your feet in here tight, and you want to have your butt down, with a low center of gravity. And you want to stay up on your toes. That way I can bounce when my guy moves inside. I can move inside quickly. I can move to the outside quickly. I can open my hips at any point and time. So Blake is going to demonstrate what it looks like here to have good balance. He's down low. That way when I take off as a receiver, and if he's standing flat footed or if he's standing upright I'm going to be able to blow right past him. So he's got to be down at a good stance so that as soon as I come off the line, he can adjust quickly with his feet. So it takes good balance in order to be a good cover guy. And that's the main thing that we want to see here. On your toes, down low, he's got his shoulders in a good position, and he's ready now to cover.
