Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. We're talking about trying to avoid being tackled. One of the best moves you can use to try to avoid the tackle is what we call the plant and go. What we want either our running back, wide receiver, or whoever, do is if he's made up his mind to go one direction he's going to want to change direction. The way he has to do that is he has to set up his defender. He's going to be running at a small angle where the defender is pursuing him. He wants him to get all his weight going in one direction. He's going to plant and change directions and come back the other way making it hard for the defensive man to adjust and make a good tackle. He may be able to get a couple of hands on him but it will be very hard for him to bring him down. So, the key thing to remember is you have to set this play up. Our running back has to run hard in one direction, he has to get the defensive man to go by planting hard to one direction. The defender is going to sell on it and then he jab steps and comes back. When he does, he wants to explode out the other way so the defender doesn't have the chance to reverse his field and make the open tackle.
