Composting
Hi! This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series, we're going to talk about starting compost heap and learning all about compost. What is compost? Everyone has the saying organic compost and mushroom compost. What exactly is it? Compost is simply dead foliage from the last year. If you think about it, in the forest plants pretty much compost for themselves. The plants come up and grow during the spring and summer, then the leaves die back. Then they provide nutrition for themselves for the next year. The same thing when the leaves fall down and they compost over the winter. They provide nutrition for the tree for the next year. Over the years, we've always learned that we need to pick up our composting and get rid of it. It's something that we don't want in our garden. We don't want leaves. We don't want grass clippings. We don't want anything like that around us because it looks dirty. It looks messy. Well, there's a few simple ways that we can use compost, and it's not that difficult. Instead of throwing away your compost or throwing away your grass clippings in your leaves, there's easy ways that we can save them and use them in our garden for the next year. Please join us as we learn about compost. In the next segment, we'll talk about why it is so important to compost.
