Questions & AnswersHi. This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series we are learning all about house plants, and in this segment, we'll talk about how to design an indoor garden. There are many ways that you can design an indoor garden. Whether you have an atrium or a window in your kitchen, there are a lot of great ideas. You can always stick with one thing. You can have only cactus in one area or go with an area of succulents or you can set up another area apart and only have tropical plants. Or, if you are an orchid lover, you could have a windowsill where you only place orchids there with all sorts of artwork from your travels to China and Japan. Indoor gardening doesn't have to be complicated. It's just setting an area aside for house plants and you can intermix art and statues and any other items that are special to you. When selecting plants for your indoor garden, I like to include hanging plants because there is a lot of dead space in your house and hanging plants always fill it up. It gives them room to grow down. Just one hanging plant in a room makes it look alive. Just by adding a few plants to a room can change it dramatically. If you have artwork that is African or that looks tropical or South American, add some plants from that area into your home garden as well. This is really easy to do.
