Acapella Preparation for a Rap Performance

PETTIDEE: What's up? This is Pettidee from Soldier Sound Records with Expert Village, and I'm going to give you tips on performing live. Next, we're going to talk about a cappellas. Always have a freestyle or a cappella. Whether you're a singer, whether you're a rapper, always have an a cappella; always have that plan B. If the sound goes out, if your mic goes out, if your monitors go out, people--again, people came to see a hot show. People came to see you perform. People came to see you at your speciality, so you want to have your plan A, you want to have your plan B. For me, what I usually do is I'll do a freestyle and if they haven't got the sound together by then, I usually have one of homeboys come up and he'll beatbox. We'll get the crowd clapping. We always have that plan B. Some of my friends, they'll sing; they'll go right into an a cappella song, and you're a master of ceremony, so you want to be able to perform in all these different ways so that the crowd gets what they came for no matter what the situation, so always have an a cappella ready, always have a freestyle ready, and always be ready to be the performer that you are, a professional.
