Transitioning between Songs while Rapping

PETTIDEE: What's up? This is Pettidee with Soldier Sound Records on behalf of Expert Village, and today we're going to give you tips on live performance. Next, we'll talk about performance transition from song to song. Never take too long in your song transitions meaning once the song is done, don't get long-winded; you know you'll lose it, the momentum from the last song and even the momentum from the entire show. And then once you finally get your spiel done, you're ready to get them hyped up again and they're just kinda tired, especially if you've got a live show where everybody's just real interactive and they get real hyped and you can really lose them if you take a long time between your sets, between your songs. I've seen people get long-winded and start talking about nothing. I've seen people--the DJ's set is too long, they just take a long time between sets. You want to have it smooth. You want to have it to where the level of your songs are not going up and down, up and down, and you always want to have a controlled song level. If you're doing--going from a hyped song to a mellow song, you want to be able to bring them down, but again you don't want that time between each song to be long at all because you'll definitely lose your crowd especially if you've got five or six more songs to do, you just created a hard job for yourself, so make sure, especially if you have a DJ. If you don't have a DJ, come out with some cool ways to make your transitions nice and smooth, but never take too long between your transitions and you'll have a hot show all the way through.
