Where to Stand on Stage when Rapping

PETTIDEE: What's up? This is Pettidee from Soldier Sound Records with Expert Village, and I'm going to give you tips on performing live. Next, we're going to talk about homebase. Homebase when performing live is front and center. When you perform front and center you become the master of ceremony. When you--if you notice when you watch orchestra, opera singers, they always sing pretty much front and center. When people go to the movies, where do they sit? They want to sit--the best seats in the house is front and center. When you go to a basketball game, they want to sit, you know, they want to sit half court, they want to sit in the middle. So, front and center is the best place to be homebase, but at the same time you do not want to babysit homebase. Most people when they first start performing, they are afraid and they'll babysit homebase. You want to show respect to the people on the left, you want to show respect to the people on the right, you want to give a hot show, you want to give a great performance, and--but you definitely don't want to babysit it, and most people who babysit homebase will be in the back. That shows that you're afraid of and intimidated by your audience. So, make homebase--this is homebase. Homebase is front and center. Homebase is your--is the place where you come to usually do all of your choruses and when you want the crowd to be involved with you, but don't babysit homebase. Come over here and interact with your people. Go all around as much as you can to show them that you're here, you're here for them, you're providing the service, and homebase gives you that opportunity even if it's just you to let them know that, "Hey, this is where we are and this is what we're doing, and I'm going to give you a great show." So, this is homebase, front and center is homebase, but do not babysit homebase and you'll have a good time.
